Thanksgiving 2026: Grateful for Community, Connection, and Growth

October 12, 2026 | Loy Excellentia Initiative

As Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving, Loy Excellentia Initiative joins in expressing heartfelt gratitude for the people, opportunities, partnerships, and blessings that have shaped our journey in 2026.

This year has given us many reasons to be thankful.

In February, our Black History Month celebration brought students, professionals, and community members together to celebrate Black heritage, honour achievements, and strengthen connections. It was a meaningful reminder of the importance of identity, shared experiences, and belonging.

We are equally grateful for the friendships and relationships nurtured through our community gatherings and social activities. These moments remind us that building a supportive community goes beyond organizing events. It is about creating spaces where people feel welcomed, valued, and connected.

In September, our Beyond the Classroom: Lived Experiences, Belonging, and Success professional development workshop provided another opportunity for students, educators, professionals, and community leaders to learn from one another, share experiences, and explore ways to support student success and well-being.

We also celebrate the recognition of our founder, Dr. Aloysius C. Anyichie, who received the 2026 Manitoba Mosaic Welcoming Community Champion Award – Individual. We are grateful for this recognition of a commitment to mentorship, inclusion, and community service—values that continue to guide our work.

Above all, we are thankful for the people who make our mission possible: our students, volunteers, mentors, partners, friends, and supporters. Your generosity, encouragement, participation, and belief in our mission continue to inspire us.

As we reflect on the blessings of this year, we also look ahead with hope and gratitude for the opportunities, partnerships, and possibilities still to come.

Together, we remain committed to advancing mentorship, empowerment, and excellence, and building communities where individuals can belong, grow, and thrive.

Happy Thanksgiving, Canada!

With gratitude,

The Loy Excellentia Initiative Team
