Applications are now open for the 2025/2026 cohort of the Loy Excellentia Initiative Mentorship Program, supporting post-secondary students of African descent across Canada.
What is the Loy Excellentia Mentorship Program?
The Loy Excellentia Initiative provides mentorship, community support, and leadership development for students of African descent studying in Canadian universities and colleges. This program pairs students with experienced mentors, professionals, scholars, and community leaders who understand their cultural context and academic journey.

Adjusting to new academic environments, navigating career paths, or simply finding a sense of belonging can be challenging. Mentorship provides:
- Guidance from someone who has walked the path
- Emotional and academic support
- Cultural affirmation and shared identity
- Stronger motivation and confidence
This program helps students feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Program Benefits
- One-on-one mentorship guidance
- Academic and professional growth strategies
- Networking opportunities across Canada
- Leadership and confidence development
- Support from a culturally grounded community
This program is open to post-secondary students of African descent in Canada.
How the Program Works
Mentors and mentees are matched based on field of study, professional interests, and personal goals. Meetings may be virtual or in-person depending on location and availability.
